Study guide for Social Studies Unit 2

Your child will need to know the following for the next Social Studies test.

• Vocabulary words:  

geography- the study of the Earth and the ways people use it

landform- a kind of shape on the surface of the Earth

ancestor- a person in our family who lived before we were born

producer- someone who makes or grows something

consumer- someone who buys goods

natural resource- a useful material that comes from the Earth

crop- a kind of plant grown by people for food and other uses

conservation- the care and protection of land, water, plants, trees, and animals

• Cause and effect. Example: Cause: I was hungry. Effect: I ate a sandwich. Why did you eat the sandwich? Because  I was hungry.

• You will have to answer the questions on a bar graph.

• Map Skills (name of the map, locate lakes; deserts; canyons, etc

My students will receive 5 extra points on their test if they can name the 7 continents.  They will receive 5 MORE points if they spell them correctly.  The 7 continents are: Asia, Africa, Australia , Antarctica, Europe, North American, and South America .
